OLATHE NOON OPTIMIST CITY PROCLAMATION
This year the Olathe Noon Optimist Club celebrates its 80th anniversary. Since 1946 club
members have served the needs of young people in our community. Olathe Noon has given tens of thousands of dollars in college scholarships; recognized outstanding high school students each month; presented dictionaries to Olathe 4th graders; sponsored Essay and Oratorical Contests; collected food, bedding, and coats for children in need; sponsored teens to attend Boys’ and Girls’ State; helped raise money to send children with cancer to summer camps; supported the Mayor’s Children’s Fund; and offered many other programs for young people. In recognition of Olathe Noon’s eight decades of service to Olathe youth, the City of Olathe and Mayor John Bacon presented the club with a Proclamation at the July 21 City Council meeting, designating July 21, 2026, as Olathe Noon Optimist Club Day. Club President Barbara Cordts spoke to meeting attendees about the club’s activities and accepted the Proclamation from the Mayor.
Five minutes that matteR
On Friday, May 1, the official premier of the suicide prevention video Five Minutes that Matter was held at Olathe Northwest High School. The video was created by students at Olathe Northwest using funds from a matching grant received from the Optimist International Foundation and money raised by our club. ONW students introduced the video and answered questions from the audience. The video was very well received by the students, faculty, guests, and club members in attendance. Now it will be distributed to schools, Optimist Clubs, and the public.
